SYNOPSIS A (Sherlock Homes parody) detective, "Nick Carter" is a handsome laid-back hero who uses a dizzying array of gadgets to help him solve mysteries and catch crooks in the late 1800's. At the film's start he is summoned from his New York City office to Prague to investigate the missing dog of a noble family. When he arrives a local cop is there to assist him with his case. Almost immediately the villains begin spying on Carter and try a variety of murder attempts. Meanwhile, a seemingly kind old professor has created a giant flesh-eating plant. This may explain the missing dog. The film is overflowing with original ideas. One flashback sequence is shown as a series of black and white photos. The monster plant is a combination of puppetry and stop-motion animation. The villains (and good guys) use a never-ending supply of clever gizmos, weapons and disguises worthy of a Looney Tunes cartoon. Fast paced, entertaining, funny and highly recommended. In spoken Czech language with English subtitles. WIDESCREEN.
